Had a lovely time visiting Horniman. We went to the cafe, aquarium, and walked through the park. It was midweek term time but worth noting the cafe was still heaving with lots of parents with young kids. The aquarium is small but fun and great for babies. There was a fair amount of maintenance work being done in the garden but still nice to walk through.

The Horniman Museum is a fantastic destination for family outings, offering a captivating blend of wildlife exhibits, an indoor aquarium and a variety of cultural treasures. It provides an engaging learning experience for kids, and a great outdoor area for picnics or sporting activities as well as a mini animal walk and butterfly enclosure, making it a must-visit for families seeking a fun and enriching day out.

I absolutely LOVED the Horniman Museum and Gardens and thought the aquarium and butterfly house were very reasonably priced (the museum itself is free). I didn't pre-book any of my tickets and visited on a Friday afternoon. If you are in the vicinity it's well worth a visit. So much to see and learn and just enjoy! The natural history hall is AWESOME and absolutely full of stuff to keep young and old naturalists occupied. The aquarium, whilst small, is one of the best kept and presented and child friendly aquariums I think I've ever been to. I was very impressed and just stunned at all the anemones and corals growing. The butterfly house was wonderful- and the staff super helpful and friendly. The challenge to find caterpillars and eggs was tough, I only managed to spot one on my own before caving in and asking a staff member for help (which they happily obliged with, showing me numerous awesome caterpillars that had been staring me in the face! 🤦♀️). I actually walked from Nunhead as I visited the cemetery first - tip for anyone thinking about doing the same thing - go back to nunhead and catch the train to forest hills - the walk from Forest hills to the museum is MUCH flatter than the walk from nunhead to the museum 🤣🥵 (the majority of the walk is quite flat until you get to the very last part, which is very steeply uphill!). So if you have half a day to spend, it's well worth the visit.
