Brother Marcus Angel, Exclusive Hire

The original Brother Marcus in Balham is known for its brunch, but this second site has an expanded menu that includes dinner too. It’s a photo-friendly spot, with pretty foliage intertwined in a steel grid, and wooden banquette seating that’s perfect for groups. For brunch the kitchen turns out the likes of sweet potato, courgette and feta fritters with mashed avocado and spinach, or beetroot-cured salmon with scrambled eggs and broccoli. Come evening, the focus switches to Mediterranean small plates, with dishes such as grilled octopus on fava purée, or pork belly with apple labneh and walnuts. There’s also a forte in vegetarian and vegan dishes: char-grilled aubergine with mint and chilli, maybe, or courgette flowers stuffed with goats’ curd and pine nuts. Round off a visit with honey bombs and cinnamon syrup, or perhaps a Mediterranean-style cocktail of Smoke and Honey (mezcal, lime and Greek honey water).
