One of the Accor Group hotels that once again serves up quality and value. Stunning location, clean but compact rooms with a fantastic rainfall shower that always left me feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Friendly staff, decent price for central London, nice restaurant attached but well within walking distance of some of the best places in London to eat and drink. Highly recommended.

I'm reviewing the Marco restaurant attached to the Mercure only. The food was fresh, delicious and served quickly. Service was great - there were some families around us with small children, who seemed well catered for by the staff. All in all this was a good restaurant - the food didn't blow me away, but priced similarly to the pizza express a few doors down, I would chose this place any day.

Good location from Russell square underground. Makes it easier to travel between different areas of London. Overall the room was nice and well maintained, only thing I'd like more is just more room. In a single bedroom with a shower everything felt rather small.

Air con worked great, bed was super comfortable, room was a little dated but very tidy. Breakfast was great, a lot of variety (a la carte + buffet). Noise factor: my room was on the second floor (215) facing the the exhaust of the downstairs restaurant, it was impossible to open the window because of a) the smells and b) the noise. They provided earplugs, but this doesn't solve the strong smell issue. Another issue was thin walls; I could hear the neighbouring hotel guests laughing in the middle of the night and slamming their doors in the morning. They have the basics but it is a 3.5 star hotel at most.

Given an incorrect room for the first night, woken by a fire alarm test very early in the morning which me and my friend were not informed about (frustrating as we only arrived and checked in at 2am). Second room we were given when being swapped had faulty air conditioning (not working at all) so the staff gave us a fan, which in the lowest setting was incredibly loud so we couldn’t sleep. In the end we had to move room for a third time before we were given a room with a double bed so one of us slept on the sofa. Upon checking out we were told to email a manager because apparently over the last 48 hours (both weekdays) there wasn’t one available and we were offered no discount from our stay for the hassle except free breakfast (low value). It has now been a week since emailing this manager and we still have no reply. After patiently waiting to give the hotel and the manager a chance to reply and solve this issue, the lack of reply leads me to say that this has been the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel, both of us will not be visiting again and will recommend everyone else to do the same.
