I recently had a scholarship interview here. Regrettably I was interviewed by a panel of intellectual lightweights. The first was around 80, struggled to use Zoom, and clearly had not checked westlaw for a decade (thus having no idea of recent legal developments). The camera was pointed up her nose for the whole interview so I had a lovely view. The second barely spoke English and became confused on basic aspects of contract law. The last said and contributed nothing to the conversation. The three stooges subsequently plodded through a prepared script of questions. They had clearly not read my application as they asked extensive questions on my University extra-curricular activities, although I had graduated over a decade ago. After finishing the interview, I checked their individual profiles and was shocked to discover that one was non-practising, one was not registered (i.e had never gotten Pupillage), and the last one went to a polytechnic university. Lincoln’s Inn did not even give me one QC, or even a semi-respected barrister. They gave me the dredges of the profession who possessed neither the capabilities nor the aptitude to judge the potential of budding barristers.

Grays inn is beautiful, lunch in the gardens, the a walk round the square trying to figure out which building is original and which rebuilt after WW2.
