Located within the heart of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh's iconic & unique new John Hope Gateway building is the Gateway Restaurant. With commanding views over the beautiful gardens beyond, the restaurant is the perfect location for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, in the evening this wonderful space turns into Edinburgh's newest and most inspiring event space, available for corporate, business and private events of all types and sizes.
The Garden has to be the perfect location for hosting a family or private event and we have a range of facilities to help meet your requirements.
From a table booked simply in our Gateway Restaurant or a more intimate lunch, dinner or reception in our David Douglas Room or Caledonian Hall to a full blown dinner possibly with dancing in the John Hope Gateway, we have a solution.
Private and family events by their nature are very personal affairs and we therefore make every effort to understand and style your requirements to meet your expectations. Our sales and co-ordination will assist you to plan your event exactly as you wish it to happen and then our event team will ensure everything goes exactly to plan on the day.

January 2024It’s a super stressful place to eat on a busy day like today. The system for getting food, then finding a table means you have dozens of folk holding full trays of food milling around, ready to pounce on any seat they can get, while individuals sit at tables for four. Cakes and coffee outside are delicious and a lot less hassle.

February 2024Staff are so unwelcoming and unprofessional. Empty displays just after 5pm. I'm shocked with the service... un willing to get some extra cakes from the back.
