At the swisher end of the neighbourhood restaurant scale, Launceston Place in Kensington has been welcoming well-heeled locals since the 80s. There are two contemporary dining rooms complete with ornate mirrors, large fireplaces and work by up-and-coming UK artists. The food is similarly patriotic and comes off a modern British menu. It offers occasion dining alongside hearty everyday dishes, with both complemented by an attractive wine list. Groups can watch the culinary action taking place in the kitchen on a plasma screen in the 12-seater Chef's Office – a modern take on the chef's table.

Excellent new year tasting menu. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly and helpful service. Waiter explained and understood the dishes. The courses were interesting and fun. Spent around 2.5 hours and we didn’t feel rushed.
