This restaurant delivered in terms of quality and the service. I'd give the food and service 4 out of 5 stars. However, this restaurant only gets 3 stars as I was massively disappointed to find the guests at the table next to me dining with TWO non service dogs. The dinner held one in his lap and allowed the dog to rest his head on the dining table, whilst the other was given more room to roam and actually started sniffing my ankles during the meal. Might I add this was INDOOR dining, not outside. The management was aware of the dogs as the manager stopped by the table to greet the guest and the dogs were clearly visible. I would not expect such an upscale restaurant to allow pets inside. One of the dogs clearly tried to get its owners attention and even barked once signaling he had to go outside. The owner couldn't be bothered with stopping his conversation with his partner and ultimate the dog urinated on the dining room floor! The guests finally left and I pointed out the pool of urine to the waiter who was cleaning the table. The staff quickly cleaned it up. For £200+ bill for 2 diners I would just expect higher standards for what is and isn't acceptable for indoor dining.

I had a great night in the L’Escargot. The waiter “Red” (I didn’t know how to say his name) he was fantastic. Very friendly, and he looked after me and my friend. The restaurant is very very cosy We was put up stairs whilst we waited for our table, upstairs was beautiful too. The food was amazing (lobster soup). The downstairs dinning room was stunning. A classical yet not stuck in the past restaurant. I and my friend had a wonderful early dinner experience in L'Escargot. They have everything: great food, well-crafted cocktails, excellent and warm service and the ambience you will not forget. The set menu is a great value and will allow to enjoy some top notch French cooking if you need to watch your spending. It was my first visit but I'm very much looking forward to coming back.

The terms 'classic' and 'institution' are very loaded when it comes to describing a restaurant. With L'Escargot, it's only the very best of associations. This place is an absolute gem, a Soho landmark. Classic French cuisine at its very best without the baggage. It's just food and service done to a great and consistent standard every time. Every time I visit it's a joy. I can't wait for the business lunch next week. And who can say that about most working lunches?

Definitely somewhere to revisit! Apart from the fantastic food and excellent service, I absolutely loved the ambience supported by the piano player who seemed like he belonged more at the Royal Opera house. Amazing evening!
