A wide variety of exhibits on display but all very interesting. Plenty to look at and get up close and personal with. Neither of us are train fanatics but found it to be a great visit for a couple of hours. The more dedicated could easily spend even longer. For free entry (plus donation) you can't go wrong. Whilst we wouldn't return immediately, I'm sure we'll be back in the future.

Lots to see though only minimum information provided. More historical context would be an asset. A shame that so many of the trains are closed at present. Staff on the doors are very friendly and helpful, pointing out lockers where we could store our bags. £3 per locker seemed a bit steep but I guess it all helps them keep going. Good atmosphere throughout.

Not a keen train spotter, I was in two minds about this visit - but all our family had a great time. It was actually very interesting to see and learn about historic / important trains and the history of our railways. There were items on display from right across the UK, which doubtless increases the appeal for visitors too. Our children had a good time - I think the exhibits manage to appeal to all ages, in a way suited to their own level. The staff were kind and helpful, especially the volunteer driving the ride on train out back. Thanks! A good gift shop too.

Really enjoyed my day at the museum. It was fab even if not overly excited about trains. They were more interesting than I anticipated! The simulator was a bit of fun but I don't think I would do it again. The little train was fun for Little ones. I didn't go on the land train but I'd like to try it next time if the route was known.

This is a great museum for railway lovers. The museum has a large range of historic locomotives on display from the Victorian era to the present day. The engines are all beautifully painted and looked after. Older visitors are likely to enjoy the nostalgia of seeing engines from some decades ago. The museum also appeals to younger visitors who enjoy both looking at the trains and playing in the the children's areas both indoors and outdoors. The venue also provides catering and a shop where indulgent grandparents can buy toy engines.
