The Coal Shed is an intimate restaurant located in Brighton's historic Lanes. Famous for their rare breed steak and local seafood grilled over coal, The Coal Shed is a firm local favourite. The main dining room has easy access to their excellent cocktail bar and can sit up to 40 guests. Upstairs, their private dining room, The Chef's Library, is perfect for personal and corporate get togethers. Hiring the room gives diners a dedicated waiter for the evening, a choice between two group menus and a completely private space. The restaurant is available for lunch and dinner seven days a week, as well as offering an excellent sharing roast on Sundays.
The main dining room at The Coal Shed is the perfect space for more intimate parties. With the bar located in the middle of the venue, start your event with a canapé and drinks reception before sitting down on communal tables to indulge in a feasting menu.
The space can be designed to your requirements and can seat up to 40 guests, with the option to also use the upstairs room for an additional 15 guests. Two group dining menus available, with bespoke options possible on request.

The food was superb. The service was attentive but not over bearing. The only thing in my opinion is the decor is looking a bit tired. Example, the table tops have, in their current condition, seen better days. In my opinion there's a little too shabby in the shabby chic look. However, I came to try your food and very glad I did. It really was excellent and all served with a smile by your friendly staff.

Beautiful steak , stunning starter.. food was spot on. Fillet steak cooked to perfection. Only thing I would say is more range on soft drinks if people cannot drink booze. Maybe like sugar free soft drinks. Xx

Went here for our anniversary and every part of the experience was perfect! The food was cooked to perfection, the staff were so lovely and helpful from beginning to end and I really cannot recommend the steaks here enough. Will be returning some day simply due to the lovely service and great food. Solid recommendation if you're looking for steak in Brighton with a nice atmosphere that is isn't so sophisticated you feel awkward just being there, but classy enough you know you're in for a exceptional time.

What a fab evening in any possible way! The food was excellent, made with love, fine ingredients and nicely presented. The cocktails were delicious and a tasty surprise. The service was flawless and the upper room was very cosy and relaxed. It is definitely my favourite place to eat in Brighton.
