The Queen is in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse during Holyrood week, which usually takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July. Then the Scottish variant of the Royal Standard of the United Kingdom is flown, and the Royal Company of Archers forms Her Majesty's ceremonial bodyguard.

The Queen received His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI at Holyroodhouse during The Pope’s official visit to the UK in September 2010. The gift presented by His Holiness to Her Majesty, a facsimile of the Lorsch Gospels, is on display at the Palace.

Great visit to the Palace, spectacular views inside and in the gardens. Great to receive complimentary tickets, as a Defence employee. Communication from the head office was really good, when contacting them before the visit.....

Booked afternoon tea here for a Valentine's treat. Highly recommend! The staff are so welcoming. The palace is really interesting. Full of history. The afternoon tea was so tasty. Especially the vegetarian options. Will always visit here. Dog friendly shop and Cafe too! My dog Skye loves visiting.

Would highly recommend visiting the palace to learn more deeply about the British monarchy and history in general. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the palace and was quite intrigued hearing history with the help of the audio. Every hall/room has a history to it so it was quite interesting. The palace was definitely the historic place I enjoyed the most. If you want, by the end of the tour, you can ask the staff to stamp your ticket by treating it as a donation. This will mean that you can visit the palace free for 1 year.

Highly recommendable, surprisingly beautiful interiors. They don’t allow photos inside which made me hesitate coming here since I didn’t know what there was. There is so much history here, a lot about Mary the Queen of Scots. The multimedia guide came with the cost of admission and you’ll definitely need it as there’s few signs inside

The price is particularly high even though there's nothing crazy inside. The tour is rather quick, the rooms are not very interesting. Photos aren't allowed inside, but there's nothing really interesting to photograph, so I think only the exteriors are interesting. If you're not a fan of the monarchy, I don't think the visit is worth it. If you have to choose, you'd better visit Edinburgh Castle.
