Description

Shaka Zulu, London's largest South African restaurant, opened its doors in August 2010 with a special royal blessing from the Zulu King, HRH Goodwill Zwelithini.

Set over a ground breaking 27,000 sq ft, this spectacular two floor restaurant, bar and club offers amazing food, drinks, live music, dancing and is one of Camden’s premier events spaces.

The lower floor of this stunning venue is complemented by a display of 20ft high warrior statues and the Mezzanine level offers a champagne bar and cocktail lounge overlooking the stunning restaurant. Carved wooden murals cover every inch of Shaka Zulu's walls making it a popular and alternative venue for your event. From bah mitzvah’s to a high end party to large dinners and exclusive hire, Shaka Zulu boasts 6 separate event spaces that can host up to 850 people – including our amazing Kings Clubs.

Named after the Zulu King himself, King Zwelithini is our semi-private dining area situated on the Lower Ground Floor. Equally as stunning as the rest of the venue, this area is the perfect dining space for celebrating any occasion and has a capacity of up to 80 guests.

A little pricey for what it is... Be sure to go at the weekend for live entertainment. Visited with friends mid week and had a set menu (shield) with a voucher that included a champagne cocktail each. We also had some beers and and another round of cocktails, which were decent. The food is good and well-presented, with choices of unusual meat (I tried zebra), and dessert was excellent. Service was attentive. The whole place is decorated in an African theme, and perhaps not especially authentic but looks fantastic. It's also huge - it was nearly empty the night we visited. I gather on weekends, there is live entertainment that is quite an experience - so I'll have to good back to see this. Overall, we enjoyed our evening but had to pay £120 on top of the voucher, so I expect without the voucher, it would be a bit overpriced for the food and drink. Depends how much one is willing to spend on the entertainment.

I worked part time there, the staff is very friendly and very professional. They have a communication system setup between their kitchen, waiters and managers so that they can provide the fastest and best service possible to their clients. Occasionally around midnight the restaurant turns into a dance club and guests are present with free shots.

Very ruddy stuff. I have ordered soda and whisky, but the waiter put all together without even asking. When I have explained that I wanted the whiskey clear he became very rudy and said that I should mention that upfront..which does not make sense to me. This is something he must ask if bot sure. Anyways he replaced the whisky but put ice without asking into it which is again problem because I do not drink whiskey with ice. The normal move is to have ice plate separate and then the customer to decide or at least to ask. I didn't say anything about the ice because it was obvious that the stuff is not trained properly and does not behave as they should. Will not come back.

Great service and excellent food. Everything we had was fantastic. The waitress very attentive and the music and atmosphere were great. There was a magician entertaining tables near us (sadly he didn't make a stop at our table) but the diners really enjoyed him (I asked ;) We spent about 212 pounds for 5 adults and a child. We had some main dishes, some appetizers and desserts.

Do not use virgin experience days for a visit to this restaurant.I bought a voucher for a 3 course meal for 3 with a sparkling cocktail. Very limited menu, different from what is on offer, in fact we had only a choice of 4 dishes. £25 supplement if you want meat! The only other choice was chick pea curry and a tiny piece of sea bass with 3 chunks of celeriac. Starters were tiny bits of sushi. Desserts were nice but the cheese and biscuits consisted of 3 cream crackers and 3 slithers of cheddar and Stilton. As for the 'sparkling Cocktail' it was a glass beaker filled with iceand food colouring and if there was any alcohol we couldn't taste it. The waitress was lovely and seemed embarrassed as she brought out the dishes. To finish off they added a service charge of £10 without our consent which we refused to pay. Avoid at all costs.
