One Whitehall Place, The Gladstone Library

This unique venue was designed in the style of a Grand French Chateau and from the moment you walk through the front doors, you are aware of fine architectural detail and elegance. The grand free standing staircase, cut from solid Sicilian marble and reputed to be the largest of its kind in Europe, intricate plasterwork and tall, lofty ceilings, ensure it now enjoys a protected status.

One Whitehall Place was built to be a place to gather and discus, to relax and to entertain. It has hosted some of the country’s most distinguished and colourful characters. Politicians and journalists, radicals and bohemians alike mingled within these walls and one can only guess at the thoughts and ideas that have been conceived and debated here.

Our largest function room – the Gladstone Library –features a wealth of architectural detail.The essence of the original library remains intact,through faithful replicas of the 30,000 volumes that surround the room. The high ceilings, magnificent faience tiled columns and windows flooded with natural light enhance the impressive Victorian grandeur, setting the perfect scene for any type of event.
