In April 1896, the 71-year-old Dr. Frederick James Furnivall founded Furnivall Sculling Club for girls. He wanted to break into the traditionally male-dominated world of river sport, by building a club for women.
The Furnivall club room is available for hire for weddings, birthday parties, Christening and meetings. Situated on the first floor, there are French windows giving onto a south-facing balcony with magnificent views of the Thames and of Hammersmith Bridge.
