Lovely old building, very helpful receptionists, great choice for breakfast. Just a shame there's no other food available as places to eat aren't close. Shops very scarce, but maybe that's just me?! Jo

Nice rooms, very interesting historical building, nice breakfast, however, we were very disappointed to find out that their pub/restaurant was not serving food in the evening at all (after being told at check-in that we'd be able to order food at the bar). This meant a long walk into town (about a mile) to get take away pizza for the family, which we had to eat in the room. Not ideal. Also, parking is very limited and we had to park on the street the other side of the railway line, despite arriving in the afternoon for check-in.

We didn't stay in the rooms (although we were told they were nice) we were guests at a wedding reception. The food was fantastic and a very good venue over all. A little out of the way for Colchester Town centre, that said it didn't matter to us.

We found the bar a very unfriendly place to be. There was never anyone behind the bar and we had to go to reception to get served. Tonight I took a photo of the bar manager completely ignoring customers while he fiddled with the till. Not even an acknowledgement of their presence. I think you should change your name to a B&B as you no longer serve food. The "hotel" is not conveniently situated to access food and I think you need to make this clear at the booking stage. Breakfast was average and I was served hard poached eggs. Even as a deal I wouldn't recommend this accommodation apart from the room being clean but it had a clicking radiator that kept one of us awake. I don't normally complain but I felt it necessary on this occasion.
