Firstly I’d like to stress that I stay in dozens of hotels in many many countries around the world. Myself and two workmates were booked in to this hotel by a company we were working for through a booking website. The rooms were prepaid so, in theory, we only needed to turn up and check in. Who wrong was I? We were told we cold do check in without an email from the person who booked the rooms with confirmation of the credit card used. We tried but couldn’t get in touch with them due to it being 9pm. We tried to explain our situation but were told it was company policy. At one point the man behind the desk threatened to not let us stay. I asked him why he was threatening me and a lady behind reception immediately jumped to his defence saying he hadn’t threatened me. He had. We eventually had to pay with our private card. I got to my ‘room’, well it was a shocker. Parts of the shower didn’t work so I couldn’t get water to the shower head. The bathroom curtains don’t close so I had to bathe without any privacy. There is no TV. There is rubbish outside the window. There is mould on the walls. This hotel is like something you’d find in the third world. It might look posh but it’s a real dump. I can’t give it less than 1 star but if I could I would.

The hotel has such a nice design and architecture from the outside. The inside however, is rather unpleasant. The whole hotel stinks, the carpets look like they have never been cleaned before, the bedrooms are creepy, have a weird and bad vibe, they’re too old and you can feel the humidity around when you breath, the furniture is really old and it doesn’t feel nice at all. We have googled the place before and they only show the nicest pictures but once you get in there it’s the complete opposite. I’m not even gonna mention the food, as we only tried the breakfast and we could not even manage to finish it all, we had to go out all the time. It was such a disappointment tbh, we came all the way from Spain thinking that we have booked a nice hotel. I would not recommend any of the Britannia hotels in general, they’re old, dirty and not worth the price.

Just home from a 5 day stay at the Adelphi Liverpool. Okay it's a bit tired and could do with some tlc. Was in room 106 it was clean and spacious. The lovely lady who did house keeping on this floor was so kind to help us on our departure as the lifts were so busy we could not get out for our bus on the day we were leaving. All staff were helpful and friendly. Food was hot and plenty of it. On our second last day workmen needed into our room for maintenance so we were upgraded to the Harold Wilson suite. It was really nice. Don't know why there are so many bad reviews. It was cheap and cheerful. Only downfall is the rooms at the front are really noisy at night as pub across the road has music till late at night. Would still stay here again.

Supposed to have a poor reputation. However our room was clean, big large bathroom. A little dated. Food is self service with reasonable selection and hot. Served on hot plates which is always nice. Only one food area so you queue to serve yourself. Drinks were good prices but when we visited, ONLY 2staff serving drinks. Very very long waits to get served. Recommend you order double and use a tray

Great location, impressive building and entrance. Queue to be checked in was huge and only 2 stressed out people at reception. The bedroom was tiny. I had asked for a double bed , I was given 2 singles. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, stains on the floor, chipped paint work, mold on bathroom ceiling, broken fittings (see photos provided). The fuse in the hairdryer provided also did not work. The room was dull, drab and a very, very dated small box, but at least the bedding was clean. I was very disappointed , this hotel deserves a 2 star rating. At £110/night it was certainly over priced. We will not be staying here again.
