Opium is an award winning,1920’s Shanghai themed cocktail bar and dim sum parlour located in the heart of chinatown, soho.
Behind the hidden Jade Door and up the winding staircase, the venue splits across two floors which house three individual oriental-themed bars-within-a-bar.
Each bar serves an eclectic range of experimental & creative cocktails, with traditional dim sum served throughout the venue.
The Academy bar is located on the top floor at Opium and can accommodate up to 60 guests seated or standing. One half is set as an authentic Chinese family lounge area (The Attic), a chic, parlour style room with quirky booths, comfy armchairs and lower “coffee” type tables. The second half of the Academy bar is set as a comfortable carriage full of higher tables and stools leading to innovative Bartender’s Table which is an open-kitchen style bar where you can watch up-close the cocktails making process. Exclusive hire of the Academy bar includes full waiting staff/bartenders and access to the sound system.

Cancellation policy
For any exclusive venue hires we require at least 2 weeks` notice for any cancellations to your booking and 48 hours for any changes. If you cancel after this time or do not show up for your booking on the evening, the full deposit will be retained. We hold your reserved area for a maximum of 30 minutes. Please do inform us of any lateness and we will try and hold your booking for you however, if contact is not made within 30 minutes, we will we treat this as a no show and the deposit will be retained.
Other rules
We are an over 18 venue and we check IDs upon entrance. We reserve the right to refuse entry if you don't have any form of ID on you. Our dress code is smart casual. Please no flip flops, full sports attire, shorts or fancy dress when joining us although, trainers are acceptable. We have a bag search upon entrance, and our team will confiscate any liquids or food if found as we don’t allow any externally purchased food or drinks to be brought and consumed within our premises. To ensure the experience is enjoyable for all guests in our parlour, we do not allow party decorations or balloons. Our team reserve the right to refuse entry and service to intoxicated guests. In this circumstance, we can't offer any refund on pre-purchase drink or deposit payment. If the venue were to close due to an unexpected reason on the date of your booking, we would move your booking to a different date. There will be an optional 12.5% service charge added to your bill.
