Hire Ritzy Cinema ~ Screen 1
About Screen 1
Brixton Oval, London, SW2 1JG
The Ritzy is a Brixton institution, much loved for its friendly staff and anti-multiplex atmosphere. One of south London’s oldest picture palaces (it originally opened in 1911), today the Ritzy has still got a little of that grandeur. A member of the Picturehouse group of cinemas, it has five screens which are all comfortable and range from 52 - 350 seats. Screen 1 (the largest of the auditoria) has been restored to how it would have looked 100 years ago and remains many people's favourite place to watch a film - or more recently even get married!
The venue is licensed for weddings in all screens, as well as the Upstairs venue, for couples looking for something a little different on their big day.
The Upstairs bar is known best as a live music venue, but can be used for anything from wedding, receptions, birthday parties and baby showers, to screenings, workshop/classes, meetings and photoshoots.
The main, and most beautiful cinema screen in the venue - fully restored to how it looked over 100 years ago. With large stage, comfortable seats and drink holders.

As a live music venue it's really not very good. Expensive drinks and the sound system is very poor. The outside seating area is nice but it still doesn't make for a good night. Might be better during the day but I can't comment on that.GOOGLE REVIEW

Great cinema, big screen and comfy seats. Would definitely recommend to watch films. The food and drinks selections is also quite good. There’s a bar connected to the cinema which is a nice touch and gives you something to do before or after.GOOGLE REVIEW

Great cinema! picture and sounds were good quality. And here's a tip if you want to save some money, go there on Mondays. They only charge around £7 which is half of what they charge you on friday evenings, saturday and Sundays.GOOGLE REVIEW

Great cinema, main screen is like a theatre and is spacious and clean. Food and drink options are vast and the service is really friendly. Not the cheapest place but given its location and quality it's a great spot to catch a film, quiz or bite to eat.GOOGLE REVIEW

I saw a film here recently it was pretty good. The cinema was dark during the film so I couldn't see what the cinema is like inside I understand that City Screen own the Ritzy now and that this led to a dispute over pay and conditions for employees. As you enter the cinema there's a golden opportunity to purchase a wide range of food stuffs: sweets, pop and crisps. How fantastic you can sit in semi-darkness eating junk food. Once I almost got into a fight in the reception. It was awful.GOOGLE REVIEW
