This two-floor Hackney all-dayer is an urban oasis, with light pouring in through double-height windows and potted plants and piles of logs lying around the place. Stacked burgers and inventive vegetarian options are the focus of the short menu, although on our visit the kitchen showed a surer touch with the non-meat stuff. Duck breast in a bun would have benefited from meat that was more tender, but the accompanying sriracha-infused coleslaw was a nice touch. Special mention must go to the cheese toastie – golden sourdough, stuffed with a deliciously gooey mix of Gruyère, Keen’s Cheddar and Red Leicester; the vegeree (which swaps out fish for sweet potato and halloumi) sounds fun too. Puddings, such as puffy US-style waffles topped with the likes of vanilla ice cream and sticky-sweet caramel sauce, also hit the spot. To drink, there’s the usual East London mix of craft beers and fun cocktails, with further appeal courtesy of weekend brunch and a terrace for sun-seekers.
