Conveniently situated close to Manchester airport, upmarket hotel with brilliant customer service who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Particularly impressive was the restaurant which offers a hearty full English (and continental) breakfast served by the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. We had a great time chatting to the head waiter and restaurant staff during breakfast, and were so grateful for the considerate customer service at the hotel desk when we checked in very late the night before. Highly recommended and we’ll definitely stopover here again in the future.

The hotel is advertised as 'recently refurbished' but they really should tell you it's still in the middle of refurbishment! I got chatting to a couple of the builders who said the top 2 floors were shut off because they were still being worked on. I didn't actually need them to tell me because I found out for myself at 6am. I'd booked a hotel so that I didn't have to set off from home at 6am but 100 quid down and all I saved myself was an extra 30 minutes in bed. And honestly the quality of refurb is rubbish, it's had a repaint and some new carpets, that's it. The bathroom in my room was shocking. They've fitted a new splashback behind the shower (that actually looks like it's got black mould, I had to take a second glance!) and that's it, they've not even fixed the dodgy repairs from years before. Also it was very icy the evening I arrived and the morning I flew out, but the car park or pavements weren't gritted, they'd done the bit immediately in front of the entrance but all the rest had been ignored, I ended up driving through a parking area rather than the proper access road because I could see the ice build up shining in the street light. I had to walk the access road to get to the hotel entrance and it was really slippery, I'm thankful I decided against driving down it! I used to stay in the hotel almost every time I flew from Manchester, it then went very down hill, especially when they were selling access to the lounge and people started trying to drink £40 worth of booze in 2 hours to cover the cost, it then closed down for quite some time, but I was keen to try it again to see if it had got its cold charm back. Unfortunately not. Generally the IHG brand has lost its way, after years of loyalty they're no longer my hotel chain of choice.
