Located in a 13th century former medieval friary sits Blackfriars, the perfect backdrop for your wedding. Licensed for marriages, civil ceremonies and partnerships you can enjoy both the ceremony and reception all under one roof.
At Blackfriars we have a dedicated wedding coordinator to help guide you through the planning timings and logistics of your day as well as food & beverage. You are welcome to source your own decorations, flowers, cake, music etc and Blackfriars can certainly recommend some exceptional suppliers for this.
The former friary also gives you the perfect setting for your drinks reception and photos in the cloister garden or Banquet Hall.
Every wedding here is a unique and bespoke event to you. That’s why we can tailor our menus to suit you! From a simple luncheon to Champagne & canapés, followed by a full tasting menu, we can provide it all. Evening buffet spreads can also be arranged and tailored to your needs, whilst wines and other drinks can be recommended to compliment your chosen menus.
Our banquet hall can host up to 50 guests for a ceremony and then a formal dining experience on two long tables or as a U-shape. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 72 guests for a meal, with smaller grouped tables situated throughout the room.
We have it all at our venue and we are always happy to show people around, just make an appointment with one of our friendly members of staff!

We were in the Banqueting Hall for Burns Night Dinner. Food and atmosphere plus a different tot of whisky with each course was excellent. The story teller was very entertaining with poetry from Burns and tales from Scottish myths and legends. Great night.

Amazing restaurant. Quality of Sunday lunch menu is fantastic and on another occasion they served me the best scallops I have ever tasted, as a starter, followed by superb crispy belly pork. Sadly it's in the centre of Newcastle which makes for difficult parking.

Ale tasting evening followed by a 3 course dinner. Received as a Christmas gift. Lashings of beer, great tasting food, met lovely people in fabulous surroundings. Can't wait to go again.

Went there yesterday with friends, couldn't fault it. Lovely staff, very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was top notch, my Northumbrian beef was melt in the mouth. A thoroughly enjoyable evening, highly recommended.

Nice food if small portions. But beware if the waiter asks you if you want water for the table. Even though myself and others in my party asked for tap water they brought out fancy bottles then tried to charge £3.50.per bottle. This was questioned by a member of my party and we were reimbursed. A very sly and duplicitous move. Also they rush you off the table as soon as you have eaten. Stuck a service charge of £57 which reluctly refunded when challenged. for our table even tho they wouldn't bring you drinks to the table. For £29 pound per head it's a bit much. Won't be returning.
