I have covered several weddings at De Vere Oxford Thames. It is a beautiful setting- particually the grounds. I have been lucky enough to cover outdoor ceremonies by the beautiful river on sunny days. Absolutely lovely. Vanessa White (Emotive Photography) Aston Clinton

Stayed here for 2 nights for our anniversary. Lovely grounds, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Swimming pool and gym were nice too, and the lady who was in charge of it was great. Only criticism is that the tea in our room wasn't replenished on the second day (but luckily we had breakfast in bed which came with tea. We used Royal Cars to get in and out if town and was only £10 (even at 10pm on a Saturday night).

Lovely setting. Very professional and efficient service. Beautiful room in the garden 'wing' - immaculately clean and the most comfortable bed. Great buffet breakfast too. Highly recommend it.

We had a wonderfully quiet stay in one of the hotels ground floor garden rooms terracing into a secluded garden. The bed was huge and comfortable and the room was clean, stocked and spacious with everything we needed. The staff on arrival were lovely and friendly.

3* based on woeful service and food; but has the potential to be 4* or 5*. The ingredients are there for this to be a great hotel. It's a good location (albeit maybe a little too far out of Oxford for most tourists, far better for the wedding / conference crowd). It's very pretty (if I were an American looking for a rustic hotel in the 'English countryside' this would tick all the boxes). And the rooms are recently decorated and well-enough maintained. So it really has the potential to be a great hotel. Tragically it's let down by woeful service and terrible food. I witnessed 4 hotel managers (plus plenty of staff) covering a not-actually-that-busy breakfast service, and I'd have been embarrassed to have been any one of them. Long lines for hot food, terrible layout of continental section, with people waiting for toast blocking everyone else from accessing juice, fruit, pastries etc. Lots of staff wandering around doing nothing, while dirty dishes sat uncleared on tables. Room Service food was similarly shambolic - delivered without cutlery, napkins, condiments etc. One burger had maybe 20 chips with it, while the other had hundreds. I'd understand if they were struggling to find staff - as many places are right now - but as I say there was no shortage that I could see at Breakfast. I can only put it down to a failure in leadership and effective management.
