Description

In the 1820’s, William Henry Playfair, the foremost Scottish architect of that era, was commissioned by The Royal College of Surgeons of the City of Edinburgh to design a building fit for purpose. The Playfair building was formally opened in July 1832. This flagship building contains rooms of grandeur, tastefully and cleverly modified to incorporate up-to-date technology.

An ideal room for smaller meeting. Recently renovated, it is a warm rich red room with wooden panelling and excellent AV facilities.

Awful conference venue. Described themselves as "fully accessible" but was nothing of the sort: it took about 10 minutes to get from the main conference room to the disabled toilet, in a wheelchair, and the journey involved going through four sets of doors - at least one of which was often locked. I was told there was no step-free exit from the venue late at night as "they couldn't find the key" to the main gate. The gluten-free food was also very poor. In general, very disappointed and quite angry. I strongly recommend you do not book a conference here!

Great venue during the festival with bar and grill stalls outside you can check out the museum while hanging out here

Not for those who are weirded out. Covering surgery from history up to modern day the museum is astounding, gross and scary in equal measure. It's not for those who are grossed out by body bits, there are a LOT of body bits. There is an entrance fee of £6.50 for an adult.
