Booked before reading the reviews so we were pretty nervous about going. In fact, it was pretty good. The kids really enjoyed it and the staff were lovely. Was great they all could be in the same room too. We booked the Subject 11 room and the 8 12/13 year olds thought it was great. Not sure if our expectations were lowered by the reviews but overall we would recommend this.

The room was ok, the puzzles were a bit mixed as it was clear lots of the equipment had been used in previous rooms. The staff were very bored and didn’t really care and just showed us to the room and said read this. They said there were QR hints however there were none in the room. I have done quite a few escape rooms over the country and this one lack imagination, creativity and quality. I was a tad disappointed especially due to the price.

Subject 11. The worst escape room we’ve ever done, and we’ve completed around 100! Games masters, if you can call them that, entirely unenthusiastic and spent most of the time outside vaping. We were briefed with 4 other teams (who were playing the other games), then put in to the room with no story build up or explanation. The walkie talkie didn’t work, and so we were banging on the door (no release button, unless you break glass) or waving at the camera to try and get someone’s attention to tell them the walkie talkie wasn’t working. Needless to say no one responded (probably because they were outside & not watching the monitors). The room is extremely basic with no immersive feel or challenging puzzles. The non-linear puzzles don’t create a storyline, nor link together. When we completed the room and told the lady behind the desk about the technical issues & that we were waving at the cameras she said “I’ve been here there and everywhere” with no apology; she then went outside to her 2 vaping colleagues to ask which channel the walkie talkie should have been set to… a little late for that to be helpful to us now! It cost us over £100, and I genuinely could’ve made a better escape room in my living room. We complained via email & was told we could play another room for free. I would rather watch paint dry for an hour than play another one of their rooms, “free” or not. Don’t waste your time or money.

Myself and my friends traveled to Oxford to complete subject 11 escape room and I really wish we hadn’t bothered. We were given a half-arsed brief which gave us no indication of what we were actually meant to do. 20 minutes in when the equipment wasn’t working we tried to radio staff for a clue. Not once were our radio requests answered. We also tried to get staff attention via the security camera, we were still ignored, as staff clearly were not watching the camera. When the time was up we questioned staff as to why our radio requests were not answered and were told their radio was not switched on. Staff were clueless and not apologetic about the situation. We were reluctantly offered a free room but after the shambles we encountered today and the fact we are not local we did not feel this was an appropriate solution. Please do not waste your time or money booking this escape room. We have attempted to contact city mazes for a refund but are still waiting to hear back. Extremely disappointed.

The worst escape room we've ever seen. Subject 11 room. We've been escaping over 100 rooms all round the country and this is the worst in existence. We were made to wait 20 mins past our start time. Some chap at reception then mumbled to all 4 groups prior to letting us in the rooms. He was monotone and totally disinterested. Couldn't really hear what he was saying apart from the fact that he didn't know what the word validate meant as he didn't drive, but we should however validate our parking. No idea what he was on about. He handed us a walkie talkie which gave us a false sense of security. Once in the room we had no clue how to make a start so we attempted to use the walkie talkie just to get started. However we may aswell have been using a house brick as it was 100% ineffective. After guessing at most of the codes we escaped in around 45 minutes. The longest and most boring 45 minutes of our lives. We came to reception and the girl said oh well done you escaped in umm 40 minutes. Definitely not but a good half hearted guess. We mentioned that the walkie talkie doesn't work and she went out to outside the building door to ask her two vaping colleagues which channel it should be set on. All too little too late considering we had escaped already. The two staff we encountered were 100% disinterested. We paid over £100 for an experience that I wouldn't willingly pay £5 for. Ridiculously bad. Avoid at all costs
