It's an intriguing tale. The name, "Doggett's Coat and Badge," honors Thomas Doggett, who organized the historic London Bridge to Chelsea rowing race in the Thames. This event, dating back to 1715, is considered the oldest continuous sporting competition in the UK. The four-mile, seven-furlong race occurs annually in July. The winner was originally awarded a waterman's coat and badge, inspiring the pub's name.
Upon Doggett's death in 1721, he bequeathed in his will that The Fishmongers' Company continue the race, a tradition upheld to this day. Located along the race course in South Bank, our pub is named in homage to its founder.

Excellent pub on the river. Lucky Saint NA on draught as well as many IPA options. Outside seating area on the river is ideal for after work drinks while watching the sunset. Staff are friendly and TVs for the football. Also bigger screens and beer garden in the back door watching the football. Nice place.

We always visit this pub on trips to London and always glad we did. Very good bar meals (fish pie this time 👌) and a good choice of draught beer and cider. Not the prettiest looking from outside but comfortable old pub style inside, with great views and location. Perfect stop if you're exploring the South Bank.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Doggetts today, not only was the food lovely (tasty vegan cottage pie, thank you very much), but the service was fabulous too by a lovely lady upstairs. I wish I’d asked her name but she will know who she is. Such a warm and friendly (and quite glam!) character.

Nicely decorated and a great view from the upstairs area when it’s not hired out. Live music at the front by the bar, so would recommend sitting towards the back if you wanted a more audible conversation. Food was good and well presented, but a shame that the signature Steak and Ale Pie was sold out!

Doggetts is a nice place and very busy due to London Pride. I found a nice comfortable seat and was able to order easily using the app to save having to leaving belongings unattended. Great stuff! Drinks came quickly and no problem at all. Stayed for a few drinks, and opted to get food. The food unfortunately let's the rating down. No complaints on time to bring to table. But had the steak and ale pie, where the pie itself was fine but the chips served with it were stone cold. No idea where can get salt from as the guy who served it didn't give a second to check before running off. Of the whole plate only the pie was steaming hot. Very disappointing considering the cost of it. Staff don't hang around enough to raise the problem. Quite sad really as was looking forward to eating here first time in a while. Overall...happy with drinks only service. But I'm quite let down on food and service overall, feeling like I'd have better spent my money elsewhere 😞 don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
