In the South Downs National Park, The Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa dates back to 1430. Old and original features are still present, including inglenook fireplaces, Tudor bread ovens, Flemish stained-glass windows and oak beams. Each of its bedrooms is individually designed, and the cosy Queen’s Suite is said to have housed Elizabeth I. The largest of the function rooms is the Jacobean Hall, which has stone walls, heraldic banners and a minstrels gallery. The more intimate King Edward VII Suite, on the other hand, is ideal for informal meetings. Guests in need of some R&R should check out the Scandinavian-style spa and indoor pool.

We had a brilliant stay at The Spread Eagle this weekend. Staff were all charming and helpful, the room was gorgeous, clean, quiet and spacious, and the food was to die for. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi were lovely, clean, not over crowded and had drinks service direct to loungers. The authentic original Tudor and Stuart (?) features are stunning, especially the dining room and lounge bar. And to be honest the room with pool access, dinner and breakfast for two was excellent value too. Proper impressed and keen to visit again. Oh and do bring boots and go for a local walk, reception have a series of free printed maps with walk options nearby kindly.

Our second visit, and there will be a third, steeped in history and charm, being a short walk from Midhurst town and nature walks it is ideally located. The hotel itself has great spa facilities and well equipped gym, the onsite pub is cosy and warm and restaurant food is amazing. We were kindly upgraded due to the visit being a celebration and the staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. I cannot recommend highly enough and looking forward to returning.

My wife booked this hotel for a short weekend break. What a great hotel, the staff were superb, the Spa equal to that. Great location with some reputed good walks. Catered for my coeliac and gluten free food requirements. So what a find and I’d recommend this hotel.

Question: What’s a bigger sin than bland food?? Answer: paying £86 for it !! Two mains, one side, two glasses of wine. £86 of your hard earn pounds please sir! Maybe the service and friendly staff were able to redeem. Wrong Needless to say this vibe vacuum of a restaurant will not be on my return to list. If you’re prices aren’t going to come down then improve the quality, improve the staff attitude, improve the customer experience and improve the dated and wonky table filled restaurant. This review doesn’t deserve photos.
