After successful stints at Street Feast and Leeds Trinity Kitchen, this street food Indian has found a permanent Spitalfields home. Founder Mark Wright (not of TOWIE fame) oversees a menu of everyday Indian fast food, including the likes of handmade sourdough naan rolls and seasonal spicy grains bowls. The vibrant space references the roadside Indian diners that influence the menu, with timber cladding and pendant lighting. Marking a departure from most British curry houses, Rola Wala goes down a healthier route, offering a range of gluten-free, low-carb and vegan options, with no dish containing more than 500 calories. On the menu, there are dishes such as masala black bean noodles and charred broccoli, or a cauliflower and kale bowl. Meanwhile, heartier plates include slow-roasted lamb, and chicken thighs marinated in seven different spices and charred over flames. After whacking up the heat, diners can cool down with Rola Wala’s range of soft drinks including mango, lime and turmeric sodas, or a selection of craft beers and wines.
