Description

On the north-side of Holborn, next to Chancery Lane underground station and close to Covent Garden, you’ll find De Vere Holborn Bars, a leading central London event venue for conferences, meetings, training and teambuilding.

With a history dating back to the early 1870s, when it was commissioned by the Prudential Insurance Company, this striking Grade II* listed red brick building has long been involved in trading and business in the city.

Designed in Gothic Revival style, with art-deco features added in the 1930s, the façade of the building features arched windows and fine architectural detailing.

Each space also offers intuitive, smart technology, free, full coverage, superfast Wi-Fi, nutritious food for well-being and a dedicated conference host.

I visit here regularly for training events with work. Although the venue has character and is generally fine, I find there are little things that get me more and more irritated as they have barely been improved. Food: The buffet lunches are generally good usually with a choice of red or white meat, fish and a vegetarian dish but the vegetarian dishes are a bit repetitive. All the dishes can be a bit salty. I've had some rather dry meat served to me before. Nicest was the sirloin steak which was served on one of my days there. Also a well stocked salad bar, soup, jacket potatoes and a selection of desserts. (The desserts can be a bit dry or bland at times but variety is good. I've had a few Eclairs that haven't been defrosted for long enough) Rooms: Some of the rooms can be a bit dim and the window blinds in some of them don't block out the glare from the sun. (Although this is a listed building so understandable to an extent, but I imagine people pay good money for these facilities though) General facilities: This is where you need to go to the venue more than once to notice. The water machines are not checked and topped up often enough and staff have been unhelpful on some occasions when this is pointed out to them (It may be the afternoon but that's not an excuse). Not enough toilets (fair enough, this is a listed building but you could surely do something to address this given there could be hundreds of guests on one floor at any time). Finally, what irritates me the most is that during snack times they only bother to put out a plateful of 6 or 7 cookies or 5 boxes of popcorn. This is either a bit miserly or they've clearly underestimated the number of guests there can be in a single room (at least 20 colleagues with me), let alone the whole floor itself. The ventilation could also be improved as it seems to always be too hot or cold and nothing in between.

Hosted a work event here. Reasonable prices, beautiful location and the team made sure we had everything we needed. This included dealing with last minute requests and late changes to the agenda. The lunch provided in the basement restaurant was really very good. This was the second successful event we have held here so I would highly recommend this venue for conferences.

Lovely venue as it's the old prudential assurance building so lots of companies use this site. The key bugbear was the food. Food was ok, nothing special.

It is tricky to find. Most people walk right by the entrance and continue on into the courtyard. Once inside it is a fancy venue with a few meeting rooms and a bar. Our venue had chattering and the food was really good. The set it up in the hallway outside the room and there was plenty to go around.

Excellent, friendly staff. Very clean and tidy. Great conference facilities. Wonderfully cool room on a very hot summer day.
