This was an extremely disappointing experience after the amazing Scotch Whiskey Experience next door. The menu looked good but the actual food was all presentation and no substance. It seems they care more about appearing fancy than actually giving you your money's worth. They we're extremely slow for service. This was despite informing us we had 90 minutes before our table had to be vacated for a reservation. They messed up a simple order to begin with and then failed to bring the food by 20 minutes before we had to vacate our table. It is uncertain how long it would have taken if we had not raised the issue. It would not have surprised us if they booted us from our table at the time limit if the food hadn't come yet. We, of course, did not have a chance to get dessert because of all of this.

The food was sublime! The proximity to the castle was also very cool - literally at the entrance! The wait staff were very friendly as well, with explanations where needed, and helpful but unintrusive otherwise. The salmon was awesome, and I also enjoyed the lamb I had. I'd highly recommend if you can make it!

Sunday during the Fringe. One harassed bar staff doing her best, unable even to provide bread and olives in 45 minutes, no chance of anything to eat, “table service” but had to pick our drinks up from the bar as she was overwhelmed. Atrocious

Ambiance perfect. Lovely attentive staff. A tasty introduction to haggis as a starter. Fish and chips tasty although it didn’t set my heart on fire. Worth a visit if in the Edinburgh castle area.

I had the venison and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. I ordered it on recommendation of our waiter and it was perfect. My husband got a steak- it was good but he said he wished he ordered the venison after he tasted mine.The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The only downside of the evening was my husband ordering a whiskey and Coke. The bartender looked at him like he was crazy for ordering it that way. I know a nicely aged single malt scotch is recommended straight but that isn't how my husband prefers it and he should have respected my husband's order and given it to him instead of pressuring him to have it straight (which my husband did but didn't enjoy as much as if he had had the drink the way he ordered it).
