Lot's of nice things about the hotel, the welcome, the location, the imposing look of the place, the room was described as cozy, we've stayed in some recently that were supposedly luxury that were far inferior to the room we stayed in. We had the set menu which was very nice, followed by cheese and biscuits. Breakfast was OK, we had poached eggs on toast, one slice of toast and two slightly underdone eggs. Coffee and orange was great, I could have made my own toast but.... On summary our visit was great, we enjoyed the hotel, the staff were great.

We’ve stayed many times before and always have a lovely time. First time we’ve had dinner, which was truly excellent and breakfast the following day was, as ever, really good, cooked fresh to order. Location is fantastic, a leisurely stroll into Stamford, lots to do on the way The room. We’ll 3 stars as we know that the rooms are really lovely all over the hotel, but if they offer you room 1, ask for a different room if they have one. It really needs a dressing table (even a small one) and definitely a chair, and whilst there’s no room for a wardrobe, even having one of those hanger units the budget hotels use would be something, but it’s the bathroom that is in need of attention. Very little grout left in the floor tiles - you can see the plastic spacers exposed, sealant in the shower is badly mould stained and in places falling out, on bulb out on the light all gives the impression of a room that is unloved but would still be fine with just a couple of days work.

An amazing find, great front of house staff, excellent chef. Stayed one night with dinner and breakfast. We opted for two courses each and had a delicious shepherd's pie followed by made to order tart tatin and a pumpkin ravioli with sage & pest crumb followed by a honey parfait. Breakfast was also well made and beautifully presented. Room very pleasant with fully equipped coffee pod station. Did I mention the excellent front of house?
