Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa, Exclusive Hire

We had a one night spa break here. Spa facilities- for the price, absolutely fab. Good sized pool with the normal extras such as sauna, steam room etc. Spa treatments- Fantastic. Very well priced for the quality!! My husband and I really enjoyed the facial especially, very relaxing. Restaurant- We had dinner and it was beautiful. Everything was well presented, tasted great and the service was lovely. All the staff were very friendly. Room- The only let down of our entire stay, the bed was really uncomfortable. It felt like the mattress had gone so we didn't get a very good sleep. We have returned since for just a spa day and also had a great experience.

unfortunately quite disappointing. reception service at check-in definitely could’ve been more welcoming or friendly. room itself didn’t have functioning a/c or radiator, had no toiletries, hardly any complementary teas etc. bed was comfy but view from room was not aesthetic at all. the spa itself was not amazing: needed cleaning up and within the thermal suite a few things didn’t work properly: the showers (aroma or massage), the salt room, and the floor was quite dirty. furthermore, we were promised an extended massage as compensation for a booking error which was confirmed at reception but when in the actual massage room the massage therapists argued with us and declined to offer the extended massage despite email confirmation. also the locker in the make changing room broke and we couldn’t get out clothes out whilst we waited for someone to come fix it. the bathing suit dryer also broke and got someone else’s trunks stuck in them. the hydrotherapy pool was amazing though - especially since it extends outdoors which is a lovely touch. however, the biggest redeeming factor was the acanthus restaurant: the food was great and the staff were exemplary - they accommodated our every need including our anniversary (unlike the hotel itself). checkout was easy and straight forward.
