The Canonbury Tavern, The Blue Room
21 Canonbury Place, London, N1 2NS -
Welcome to The Canonbury Tavern, just a short walk from Highbury and Islington tube station on Canonbury Place. This historic pub with its large garden has been gaining a reputation for serving some of the finest British food in London.
The Tavern has been a public house since the early 1700’s and boasts a rich and varied history. With one of the best pub garden spaces in London, it has long been a destination for pub-goers and diners taking advantage of our stunning urban oasis.
In 1846, the Tavern was demolished and rebuilt on the same plot of land, and in the early 20thCentury, the top floor was removed following a fire and was never replaced. This is why our wonderful staircase leads to nowhere, and provides you with some stunning photo opportunities.
We are able to accomodate both large and small celebrations. Our classic “Blue Room” is available for private hire for your wedding celebration. Cute and large tavern with plenty of indoor and garden seating. Not a huge menu but everything on the menu is done well. Large drink selection. Great ambiance— very cozy.
What a gorgeous place! The Canonbury Tavern, part of the Young's stable is a most happy and welcoming place. Fine open plan building with a restaurant area on one side, more pub and drinking on the other but eating, not at all out of place. Also a huge outside seating offering for when the rain is not pouring. Service is excellent and welcoming. Just a lovely place to visit for whatever you like.
A bright, lively and stylish spot in this relatively quiet neighbourhood. The food is simply amazing! Versatile menu, great selection of wines and well-crafted shared plates! The chef Munir really deserves a praise to be able to command unparalleled quality of food for such a busy setting. Outdoor space is large but is absolutely packed - make sure to book in advance. Desi and Leah really impressed with how smoothly and efficiently they run the customer service - very short waiting time, always attentive and smiling, making you feel special and really taken care of. Saw quite a few families with smaller kids - all enjoying themselves. Overall - superb food, excellent service and good value for money! Highly recommend and will definitely return myself!
We had a lovely time in this pub. It’s a spacious and lovely place to have a Sunday Roast. One of the main male waiters was super helpful but others were not too helpful. It might help to be slightly friendly especially at the bar. We did not get our cutlery for 5 min and food was not hot anymore. Also, they did not clean the table for a while. The pub quiz was fun but it was too long...we got tired and bored of it after one hour.
The pub garden was lovely in the sun and we ordered a sharing plate which looked amazing (picture attached). Unfortunately, the sausage meat in the sausage roll was completely uncooked in the middle (picture also attached). We told the waitress twice that we wanted to speak to the manager, however no one came to our table. It is quite worrying that no one would follow up on something that could potentially cause food poisoning to a large number of customers. Shame because the garden and other food was lovely- we will never go back though due to what happened today.
