American history very much from a white colonial perspective. Whilst there is a reasonable exhibit telling the story of the impact white settlers had on the Native American population, there is very little for example on the impact of slavery, which was so fundamental on the history and wealth of America. What there is is dotted through the other exhibits and so isn't very cohesive. Very little on story of other immigrants from other nations too. I appreciate that a museum can only tell the story of its exhibits but I think it could do a better job. Enjoyed the quilts though.

"The American Museum provides a fabulous day out for all adults and children. The New American Garden, Mount Vernon Garden, and play area “The Children’s Garden” awaits explorers of all ages. From winding paths and colourful flowers to woodland wanders with your four-legged friends (yes, dogs on leads are welcome!) and climbing adventures, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Housed in a fine Georgian manor house with outstanding views over the Limpley Stoke Valley, on the edge of Bath, the American Museum takes you on a journey through American history, with its remarkable collection of folk, decorative arts and cultural objects."

Interesting and different museum. It is based purely on how America looked from the 1600,s from within their homes. It concentrates on how the wealthy furnished their homes. The gardens were well set out and based on the mount Vernon garden. There was a large area of woodland to explore which if wasn't raining we would like to have done.

Didn't spend too long at the American Museum, as it was a last minute decision to go. Check which exhibition closes first, so you aren't disappointed. We went to the 1970s exhibition, which was amazing - a real look back in time. Had small coffees in the outside area of the cafe. The garden's flowers are spectacular. I cannot comment on the main museum, as we were pushed for time and can go another day. Plenty of free parking. It's located in the grounds of Bath Uni (not Bath Spa Uni) in Claverton. Recommended & we will return.

A delightful afternoon viewing the magnificent gardens where many improvements have taken place over recent years. A new entrance has been built making easier access. Definitely work a visit and look out for their special events from time to time.
