Our stay at Forest Lodge was a wonderful experience, but what really stood out was the exceptional customer service, especially from Michelle, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. When we were running late after visiting my brother, Michelle called in the early evening just to check on us. It was such a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for our stay. When we arrived, she greeted us warmly, explained that breakfast might be busy as the hotel was fully booked with families, and kindly offered to put my overnight oats in the fridge with some milk. The next morning, after an epic trail run through the New Forest, she handed them back with a coffee and a banana – such a thoughtful touch that really made us feel looked after. The lodge itself has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere that fits perfectly with its New Forest surroundings. The room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and it was so quiet – we had a great night’s sleep. The TV in the room was also massive, a lovely extra for relaxing in the evening. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool, but it looked like a great addition. The New Forest is simply stunning. Our trail run was a highlight, with wild horses everywhere, the friendliest people along the way, and a peaceful, serene landscape. One of the best runs of my life. Another plus was the fast charger for our electric vehicle, which was very convenient and much appreciated. Forest Lodge is a perfect base for exploring the New Forest, and we would love to return – especially to see Michelle and the team again!

Great location in the heart of New Forest. Pool was nice, great after a long day of activities. Walking distance to Lyndhurst. Continential breakfast could have had a few more options. Be advised if you are arriving late there are no food options here or in most of the town. Kitchens close before 9pm.

Not really impressed. On booking.com it clearly says breakfast included, but when we went down the next day we were told a cooked breakfast was extra money. In addition, the person at the reception never mention this when we checked in, so that was disappointing. We did stay here years ago, and it seems nothing has changed. It’s a nice hotel, with a great location, but the decor is tired and the whole place needs a good refresh. It maybe used to be a four star hotel, but not anymore.

We stayed here for a short family break, having previously enjoyed the Beaulieu Hotel in the same group. The location is excellent and the pool is a nice feature, but we didn’t feel the hotel was particularly child-friendly, which was surprising given its recommendation for Paultons Park visitors. Our room had clean bedding but felt dated, and there were a few cleanliness issues like a large cobweb hanging above the bed. Sleep was difficult due to a very hard mattress and loud fan noise coming from outside and through the wall. Staff did try to help by swapping the mattress topper, but it didn’t improve much, and we didn’t get any sympathy or follow-up about the noise problem despite raising it and informing we weren’t getting any sleep as a result. We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel as it was £20 per person per day, and instead enjoyed some lovely, more affordable cafés nearby in Lyndhurst. We also had an issue with the toddler bed barrier as only one was available due to one being broken, leaving a gap on one side of the bed. Luckily we brought our own as backup, but we unfortunately forgot to take it home when we checked out and the hotel has since claimed the one we left behind was theirs, which it wasn’t. Overall, while the pool and location were positives, the hotel didn’t quite live up to expectations and felt less suited to families than we had hoped.
