About Venue

Carlowrie Castle is a hidden gem on Edinburgh’s doorstep. Please note that the castle is an exclusive-use venue, and hire includes the whole castle and estate - we do not hire rooms individually. Set amidst an expansive 32-acre estate, Carlowrie Castle is a stunning luxury exclusive-use venue for special occasions, house parties, weddings and corporate events. Our family-owned castle has been the home of romance and adventure for many generations, from the modern-day love stories of our wedding couples to the adventures of the castle's most famous resident, Isobel Wylie Hutchison, the 20th-century explorer, who lived at Carlowrie all her life.

There are 21 luxury bedrooms within the castle, gate lodge and newly converted stables. Each room features handcrafted beds and cabinetry, and original artwork by contemporary artists. Our ensuite bathrooms have underfloor heating, gorgeous roll-top baths and spacious walk-in showers.

Only eight miles, or a 20-minute drive, from the centre of Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh and 10 minutes from Edinburgh International Airport, this 19th Century baronial mansion house has undergone lavish restoration under the careful watch of owner Andrew Marshall.

Carlowrie is a remarkable retreat that blends rich heritage with modern elegance and luxurious comfort. A haven where guests have the space and tranquillity to relax and escape. Voted one of the top three venues in Europe at The International Hotel Awards and one of the 8 Best Wedding Venues Around The World by Grazia Magazine.

Whether you're with us for a wedding, a business event or a gala dinner, there's something about Carlowrie that brings an extra sprinkle of magic to the occasion. When you book an event with us, the castle and gardens are exclusively yours for the day, and we have 55 members of staff who are here to make your time at Carlowrie a truly stand-out experience.

Carlowrie Castle is utterly magical. We were recently married there and what a privilege it was to have shared our most special day, surrounded by all the people we love, in a place like that. From first spotting Carlowrie on social media (@carlowrie_castle) to perusing the website, we knew we had to book a viewing and immediately realised what all the fuss was about. As you head up the private driveway and are greeted by the magnificence of the castle, it’s a breathtaking moment. I don’t know about David, but I had butterflies. They didn’t stop fluttering throughout the entire visit. The crazy thing is (and something we really didn’t expect) is the beauty of the place becomes almost insignificant in comparison with the service and care from Carlowrie staff. It is nothing shy of impeccable. The wonderful Ronin (our hospitality manager) in particular was pivotal in making our day as special as it was. The best thing: I could leave him to make decisions and trust his advice - SO important during the (sometimes) stressful planning phase. On the day he and the entire Carlowrie team were attentive, friendly and kind - each time there was a staff handover, David and I were notified and we had an opportunity to say thank you to the people who had taken care of us all through the day. On top of all this, they helped us to create the Glastonbury-inspired vision we had wanted from day 1 - even in a castle as grand and perfect as Carlowrie, it really can be adapted to reflect personal style. The food was a real highlight - everyone was so impressed by the canapés, wedding breakfast and evening meal (particularly the haggis starter, beef main and macaroni pies in the evening) and I was especially thrilled to have SPAM butties to satisfy my northern family and pay homage to our Grandma who loved SPAM. The messages we’ve had from guests saying they felt like royalty for the day have been amazing and this is all testament to the staff who know exactly how to coordinate a wedding and prioritise making sure everyone has a spectacular day. David doesn’t know it yet but I’m thinking we should do a 10year anniversary extravaganza at Carlowrie to relive the magic. We really would urge anyone wishing to get married in Scotland to go and see Carlowrie and meet the team - you will not regret it and you will know instantly that you are is safe hands. Thank you so much Ronin and the entire Carlowrie squad - you are a really wonderful group of people and it’s thanks to you that our day was unforgettable. David and Emily x

From the moment we first seen a picture of Carlowrie Castle with the red ivy we knew that we needed to see it! The venue ticked every box - exclusive use, accommodation on site (which is so luxe), the most stunning space, beautiful outdoors and the staff were so incredible. We were planning from Australia and Ailsa was so approachable and helpful. When we first arrived at Carlowrie to check in the day before our wedding, we were in awe at how amazing the staff were. Everyone was so hands on from unloading the cars and decor, helping our families find their rooms, making sure my husband and I always had a drink and from keeping us in the loop with what they needed or the timeline. Georgia looked after us during our stay and our whole bridal party were amazed at how perfectly the whole thing was curated. The food was beautiful and every small detail was perfect. I am so delighted with our wedding venue and will never ever get over how special the entire few days were.

We recently got married at Carlowrie this summer and we don’t even know where to begin in thanking the whole Carlowrie team. The castle itself is breathtaking, but what truly made the experience unforgettable was the care, warmth, and professionalism of the team. The hospitality and organisation were absolutely flawless—beyond anything we could have imagined—and you took every ounce of stress off our hands. We genuinely felt like we were in the safest and most capable hands, free to just enjoy every single moment of our day. The food was another huge highlight. Our guests are still raving about the seafood risotto—it was a standout dish for so many of them. And the s’mores… they disappeared so quickly that we didn’t even manage to snag one ourselves! Everything was so thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. We also have to say how impressed we were with the team. Every single member of staff was exceptional—extremely well trained, attentive, and kind. Not one person was ever dismissive or impolite, and that level of consistency is such a rare and special thing. The male member of staff who was in charge in particular was outstanding—not only incredibly professional but also so funny, which added such warmth and personality to the day. We also really appreciated how the staff kept checking in with us and offering us drinks throughout the night—it was such a thoughtful touch, especially since we kept forgetting to eat and drink in all the excitement. Overall, it was an amazing day and one we will cherish forever. If anyone is considering Carlowrie for their wedding.... do it!

My husband and I married at Carlowrie in August this year and I don’t think we can put into words how incredible our day was, I feel like my review won’t do enough justice! Firstly, the venue itself is impeccable, the detail and care taken to bring the castle into the 21st century yet remain sympathetic to its architecture and beautiful grounds is second to none. As soon as we viewed the venue we knew we were in the right place to host our wedding! From the bedrooms to the orangery everything was beautiful. We were fortunate enough to have great weather for our day which was perfect for enjoying the incredible lawn and gardens. From the initial contact Ailsa was a pleasure to deal with, quick communication, she answered all my daft questions and really took the stress out of planning. We felt in very safe hands throughout the planning process and everything was approached with warmth, professionalism, and care. On the day itself everything went so smoothly and we were made to feel so special. The hospitality from all of the team is superb, we were well taken care of and the team checked in with us throughout the day. Everyone was so friendly, attentive, and professional - an absolute credit to the venue! A special shoutout to Ailsa, Ronin, and Richard it was an absolute pleasure to have you on the day. The food! We still have our friends and family complimenting how great the menu was. The quality of ingredients and how beautifully presented the dishes were was another highlight, over the moon with how everything tasted. I really could keep rambling on for paragraphs praising Carlowrie but I need to end the review at some point. So if you are getting married in Edinburgh, look no further than Carlowrie as I can guarantee you will have the perfect wedding day you can only dream of. Once again, thank you to the whole team, we really can’t express our gratitude enough. We will certainly be back for future celebrations! Kirsty & Neil
