21 Portland Place, the home of the AAGBI was built in 1776 and is an elegant 18th century listed building, originally built on the 'Grandest Street in London'. It is a Grade II listed building, and contains a wealth of attractive features. Particular fine examples are the ceilings of the main rooms - the Portex and the Intavent Suite - which incorporate ornate moldings and paintings into their design. The house was bought by the AAGBI in 2002 and has been modernised to create a fully functioning office and meeting venue whilst respecting the beauty of the building.

Situated on the ground floor close to the reception, the Portex Room is a popular facility. Laid out in boardroom style with ample seating for 16 people, it is ideal for smaller training or conference groups. The room can also be rearranged for use as a reception room. Adjacent to the Portex room is the George Ellis Room which can be used to serve refreshments for up to 10 people or as a waiting area for visitors to relax.

    November 2023

Went to the downstairs museum. Pressed the buzzer and reception let me in. When asking for the museum, the receptionist signed me in and kindly showed me down to the museum and gave a warm welcome to browse what is a very small space. Two inlets in the room contain the whole museum but enough information was packed in for a half hour stay. I read and learned a lot and it was very relaxing as there were no other visitors with this being such a little known and signposted museum.
