Housed within Apex Hotel City of London, this best-of-British offering seeks to summon up the ghost of 17th-century diarist Samuel Pepys – in fact the name is a nod to one of his favourite fish, the eel-like lamprey. However, this is no themed tavern: the bar and restaurant are fitted out with stylish peacock-blue upholstery and streaked marble surfaces, while the all-day menu features plenty of updated Brit classics, including ‘The Lampery Pye’ – a meaty reboot involving slow-cooked beef cheek and prunes. However, we plumped for an enjoyable starter of baked Scottish scallops seasoned with zesty lime and garlic, ahead of a fatty bacon chop accompanied by an oozing fried duck egg and a stack of triple-cooked chips – although flaky Dover sole topped with hazelnut butter, lemon and capers was an equally comforting prospect. Retro puddings include twice-baked apple crumble as well as jelly and ice cream, but we went for the rich, gooey chocolate and salted caramel pudding, served with pecan ice cream. Afterwards, you can unwind with a cocktail in the bar, which offers remixed classics such as The Red Snapper – a gin-based twist on the Bloody Mary topped with ‘clamato’ juice. Located near Tower Bridge, we reckon The Lampery is best suited to professionals staying overnight in the capital, or those looking for a quick bite in the City.

The restaurant is gorgeous. But I was staying at the Apex City of London hotel and I had the full vegan breakfast as room service. Everything was very good. We had soy milk with the coffee.

I recently twice had lunch at The Lampery and had an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and excellent service. Latoya and Mark our servers, were incredibly attentive and made sure that our food experience was nothing short of exceptional. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, with cozy lighting and stylish decor. Some exquisite cocktails that perfectly complemented our meal. What truly stood out was the professionalism and dedication of Giacomo, the manager. He ensured that every guest was well taken care of and went above and beyond to accommodate any special requests. His attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction truly made our evening memorable. Overall, I highly recommend The Lampery to anyone looking for a delightful dining experience. The combination of delicious food, exceptional service, and inviting ambiance makes it a standout choice in the area. I can't wait to return and indulge in more of their culinary delights.

The Lampery, overall, was a disappointment. I ordered the rib-eye steak, but it was extremely sinewy and full of gristle. The chips, however, were quite good. The portion size of the slow-cooked lamb shoulder was also very disappointing. The standout dish was the Chicken Caesar salad. Extra points to the manager, Ludo, who listened to our complaints and made the experience more pleasant.

Me and my Spouse came from America. We ate at this restaurant, where food was unseasoned/small portion, few variety of food options, and recieved horrible waiting time to be served food or drinks. I first order duck breast but the size of it was like a butter knife, very small. So I ordered a burger meal to receive a larger meal portion. The burger tasted dull with no flavor. We waited for 75 minutes to recieve our meal orders, which was shocking due to low capacity of people in restaurant. The only positive was receiving complimentary desserts.
