About Venue
The Oakfield is where it all began for the zoo, serving as our pioneering founder George Mottershead's family home. Beautifully restored and renovated in 2018, The Oakfield retains many stunning original features like the intricate wood panelling in the Library and the sumptuous luxury of the Boardroom.
Since then, The Oakfield has had many uses from a family home to an aquarium, before becoming a stunning Grade II listed wedding venue. Today, the buildingβs original structure has been retained, and its original features preserved.
Our spaces in The Oakfield are set apart from the rest of The Oakfield so you are ensured privacy for your events, while still allowing you flexibility to use the whole venue if you wish. Our zoological gardens provide an inspirational backdrop for successful meetings.
From our private meeting rooms upstairs, to larger spaces in The Library or Garden Room, The Oakfield can cater to meetings of all sizes. Inspire your team in state-of-the-art meeting rooms, or let the stunning surroundings of the zoo impress your clients.
Our upstairs meeting spaces are perfect for meetings, training and presentations. Fully equipped with all the AV equipment and connectivity you might need, our meeting and event suites feature large windows looking out over lawns (and some animals!)

Great day here. The animal enclosures are nice and spacious. It was informative. The butterfly House was very busy with them flying around and the free flying bat house was great. Great to see some species we hadn't seen before. Plenty of refreshment places and toilets.

Would 100% recommend. Massive place to walk around. Even the giant otters know when it's time to close (very high pitch noise). π. All animals are very well kept and looked after, big and spacious enclosures. New Africa area was well worth the wait π. A very good variety of animals π¦§π¦π¦¦π¦

Staff are excellent and friendly. Plenty to see and do. Be aware that the zoo itself is huge. You will not see everything in one day, so pick the animals you wish to see. Or spread your visit to multiple visits over the year. Annual membership is worth it, especially if you have young children that tire easily. We personally have an8 month old and have visited multiple times. (He loves the fish and penguins) But we see new bits every time we go. Take your time, you can take a packed lunch, though you can get food and ice cream, drinks, tea and coffee around the park. Also their is a small sweet shop on site for those with a sweet tooth. (Bring your wallet for that experience)

A perfect family day out! Chester Zoo is a spacious, beautifully maintained haven with a fantastic variety of animals from around the world. The zoo is divided into colour zones making it easy to explore without missing a thing. Whether you're wandering through the tropical house or watching the elephants roam, it's a joyful, educational day for all ages. Highly recommended for families looking for adventure, nature, and a touch of magic!

It was a lovely zoo, perfect for families. I went alone and it was really lovely to see all the animals but I felt that the enclosures were smaller than other zoo's I've been to especially for the elephants but it was great to see such a variety of animals and their conservation work
