The Grange Hotel York, Exclusive Hire

We stayed here for our honeymoon and were disappointed by several issues. Despite clearly requesting a room with a separate space for our dog, we were given the wrong room on the first night, below the quality we paid for and without the separate area we needed. There was no explanation. We had to be very insistent to get the room we actually booked, and staff didn’t want to acknowledge their mistake. They simply told us that the room we booked on Booking.com was a dog-free room, even though we clearly indicated on Booking.com that we were traveling with a dog and also wrote directly to the hotel with our request. To our surprise, we were charged a pet fee at checkout that was never mentioned during booking or check-in. We will be making a complaint. The whole experience really impacted our honeymoon. Not only did no one congratulate us on our marriage, but instead we felt barriers were put in the way of us enjoying our stay, simply because the service was not up to standard. Basic amenities like flip flops were missing from the room, and since dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant, we had to eat in the bar—where the food was disappointing and overpriced. On top of that, the sauna was out of service for two days. Breakfast was like any other simple breakfast you’d expect in a budget hotel. The only positives about the hotel are its beautiful building, the clean rooms, and the comfortable beds. But that’s all. It definitely lacks the service a 4-star facility should provide and is way overpriced for what it offers. I would not recommend it to others.
