A superb dining experience, really great service, lovely food, good ales on tap and a great setting. We were a couple with very few in the pub that night, treated to a complementary amuse Bouche, a delicious cauliflower cheese soup. My king prawns and then fish & chips were excellent, my wife’s halloumi fries, then whipped goats cheese with honeycomb and walnut salad was superb. Really good friendly, cheerful efficient service.

Just had a sensational three course Sunday lunch! Food was sensational - beautifully presented, great quality and thoughtfully sourced. Atmosphere warm and welcoming, staff lovely. Also a great destination after a beautiful countryside stomp.

Shocking experience here. Family of four -came in with 50 mins to spare before our tour of Jane Austen’s house. Ordered the simplest thing on the menu - sandwiches plus bread and olives. Food hadn’t arrived after 45mins so asked about it and informed the staff we’d have to leave without eating if it didn’t come very soon. Five minutes later food hadn’t come so told staff we were leaving and was told YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY £44 even though food hadn’t arrived. We said we’d pay but told staff we’d come back after the tour of JAs House to eat. Was told that wasn’t possible. So we were being asked to pay even though we had received NO FOOD and had waited 50 minutes. Finally we asked for it to take away. We paid, and 15 mins later (obviously them making the sandwiches only at that point) we got 2/3 of the order. We had to wait to get a refund for the missing sandwiches and items. Food itself was really bad value. Would never go there again. If we’d walked out without eating or paying that would’ve been annoying- but to be asked to pay for food that hadn’t arrived or been prepared was just so shocking to me. Avoid this place.
