Would like to preface this by saying that the staff at the Mercure were very friendly and seemed to be trying their best (given the unfortunate circumstances of their employment). The rooms. Unidentified liquid streaks across virtually every wall. Patch of carpet was crusted in what looked to be vomit. Hole punched in the bathroom door and headboard above the bed. Slapped the pillow of the armchair in the corner of the room and watched as cloud of dust puffed forth. Rest of the chairs looked too grubby and dusty for us to dare sitting on. Beds acted as only clean safe haven. Water unable to drain in parents’ shower, literally overflowed into the rest of the bathroom. Strange musty smell in both rooms. Explained by rogue cigarette filter left in one of the bathrooms. Looked forward to breakfast as potential redeeming experience. Disappointed but unsurprised. Refuse to believe scrambled eggs were anything other than reconstituted - tasted almost like chemicals. Sausages for two identical English breakfast orders were different. Bacon extremely salty. Fried bread dripping with oil and hash brown completely dry and powdery. Continental breakfast nice, but made up of externally bought packaged goods. Mother commented that the store-bought croissant was the nicest part of our stay. Make of that what you will.GOOGLE REVIEW

We stayed at the Mercure Hotel recently after having laser eye surgery nearby at Optical Express. I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but I was soon reassured. I cannot fault the hotel or staff. The room was clean and well equipped. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. I did find it to be a little noisy on the street at night, but being fairly close to the University, this is understandable. The location is fantastic. Directly opposite Exeter Central Station and close to all the shops and amenities. There is a small parking area, however this was full, so we parked at the nearby John Lewis car park which was only a five minute walk through the lovely Northay Gardens. Breakfast was served via a buffet offering a selection of hot food, toast, fruit, pastries etc.GOOGLE REVIEW

Very nice hotel, impressive lobby, excellent room size, good facilities and a decent breakfast; all for a very reasonable price! Can ask for more! Oh and the location is second to none right in the centre of town!GOOGLE REVIEW

Nice hotel in the centre of Exeter. My room was clean and well presented. Breakfast was pleasant but a fairly standard one and overnight parking is chargable. I would stay there again.GOOGLE REVIEW

Room was nice, really warm greeting on arrival to the hotel and great location close to the station. Car park was full, but I arrived late and cant fault the hotel for this as there physically isn't further space to extend the car park. Overall I thought the hotel was great!!GOOGLE REVIEW
