Located some six miles east of the city centre, Blakesley Hall (Grade II* listed) is a delightfully restored timber-framed Elizabethan house set amidst idyllic grounds and with fine period interiors. Built in 1590 for Richard Smallbroke, Blakesley Hall provides a marvellous insight into the social aspirations of the Tudor middle-classes. The delightful grounds are a sight to behold throughout the seasons. With formal lawns, a traditional herb garden, an orchard and herbaceous borders, the site offers excellent opportunity for photographs. Modern gallery, barn & Great Hall available for hire.
The Hall is decorated in the 17th century style and provides a wonderful, atmospheric setting for filming or photography. The Great chamber contains rare traditional Tudor wall paintings and the wisteria clad porch entrance provides an attractive walk up. The delightful grounds are a sight to behold throughout the seasons. If you like historical buildings, this is a good one. 1590s build, with additional work over the centuries. Great guide, knowledgeable and interesting, delivered with a bit of humour as well. Overall the staff were lovely, the grounds immaculate and the house well presented and interesting.
