June 2025Just back from a lovely 2 night stay at The Old Ship. Loved the decor, yes it's old but it's meant to be! The rooms are good, again old and a bit shabby but it's old! We were on level 4 with a lovely view to the sea. You can hear outside but that's to be expected. The staff are lovely and the breakfast was great. Would definitely return.

April 2025Great location, nice seafront view. Staff is approachable, restaurant food and service really good. The rooms are outdated and looking tired but bed is very comfy… the noise at night is an issue if you are a light sleeper. Very happy this is a dog friendly hotel but they don’t provide dog bed, or dog bowls for your pet like other pet friendly hotels. Would be a nice touch if they did, we had to improvise. All that said, location is amazing and it was what we needed for the conference we were attending this week. A recommendation would be to provide better quality toilet roll, to top up the toiletries and to plan a renovation of the furniture/ walls and fixtures.

May 2025With it being a old hotel (hence the name) it was in places a little tired, but on saying that the staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was very clean, and everything you need for a nice stay, breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Now for the downside, the bed and the pillows were extremely uncomfortable, and (through no fault of the hotel) it was extremely noisy at night with traffic and people shouting even with the windows shut it was still noisy if these things are not a worry to you then you will love this hotel. Would we stay here again 🤔 yes if the price was right 😁after all you can catch up on your sleep when you get home 😉

April 2025Beware! This is historic hotel, perfectly located at the edge of the sea, close to the beach and Brighton pier. Some rooms have sea view (usually higher priced). Some rooms are supposedly better quality. But overall the place is shabby. And the worst of all - is the reception staff. Unfortunately they are whom you have most interactions with and who are responsible for the place's image. Our experience was bad from the very beginning (check in) till checkout. We've heard that service standard in England deteriorated after Brexit, but this was definitely low level. In rooms don't expect luxuries. Breakfast is not attractive too and not worth its price. On the positive side: bar and restaurant staff, atmosphere at the bar, live music, decent food and drinks. Great view from the room. But - also beware - busy street beneath the window that would make stay during hot days really difficult

June 2025Well I think most of the previous reviewers are either pretty close to blind or else have very low expectations. This hotel was once, probably in the 1930's, a really smart hotel. Those days are very much past. The chairs in the lounge are disgustingly dirty (and I'm no clean queen) they are so bad that I want some hand sanitiser now after sitting in them. The internet is so bad that the bar staff couldn't put my card payment through, after 2 tries I gave up and gave them cash. What sort of a business owner allows something as basic as this to be so bad. This place could be lovely, the location on the seafront, near the pier and the pavilion is great. The reception lady spent 5 minutes explaining to the man in front of me why she didn't deal with quotes for accommodation while doing a quote for accommodation for him! Don't expect to be able to use the hotel car park, I arrived at 2pm, long before check in and was told the car park was full. Being me I checked this and found loads of space in the car park but the guy there told me they had 8 spaces reserved for blue badge holders - really?? I can't believe that people come here and give it great reviews, it is a dirty old dinosaur with appalling plumbing. Don't waste your money, a certain very well known small chain nearby is only £37 more per night and `I bet it's a great deal cleaner. My only positive is that I'm not staying tonight thank goodness! n.b. I have tried to upload pictures but the wifi here won't let me!!! Additional comment. I discovered after writing this that the disabled loo is locked with a Chubb lock. Disabled people are forced to go and ask for the key before being allowed to go to the loo(which isn’t a very lovely space-see pictures). This seems appalling and degrading for disabled hotel visitors. EDIT The response from the manager does not recognise the issue of how dirty this hotels' furnishings were. Look at the photos of the arms of my chair. That is not under investment or due to the "historic" nature of the building, it is lack of cleaning and is not acceptable.
