About Venue
St Nicholas Church is a Grade I listed 13th-century church at the heart of Bristol's Old City on Saint Nicholas Street, renovated in 2018 into one of Bristol's most distinctive and flexible event venues, with four individually hireable spaces spanning a medieval crypt, a 350-capacity nave, an elevated balcony gallery, and a bright upper room.
The building is a striking combination of medieval stonework and contemporary design. Original vaulted arches, stained glass windows, stone columns, and high timber ceilings sit alongside a state-of-the-art PA system, LED uplighting throughout, and modern AV throughout. The renovation preserved the character of the building while making it genuinely practical for a wide range of modern events.
Four spaces are available for hire individually or in combination: The Crypt for intimate gatherings beneath the church, The Nave for large-scale events, The Balcony as an elevated gallery space, and The Upper Room for small meetings and workshops. External catering and BYO alcohol are both permitted with prior agreement. The venue is managed by Bristol CCRC Trust. No parking on-site. Bristol Temple Meads is 0.7 miles away and Bristol city centre bus routes pass directly outside.
