Our stay at Thornbury castle was good! We really enjoyed our room… spacious, comfortable bed and a lovely view of the courtyard! Shout out to the breakfast- bar staff to be so kind and prefessional… Dario and Hattie are amazing…also the blonde lady at the bar ( not sure the name but she had an est European accent, I think ) she was extremely kind! Overall a great stay!

This place has changed hands a few times over the years and has seen both good times and bad. But I have to say, under its current ownership, it's riding very high indeed! We stayed recently for my wife's birthday and our wedding anniversary, and we could not have been more pleased with the whole experience. Some lovely flowers and a gorgeous bottle of champagne awaited us in the room—on the house! Thank you—that was a very nice touch :-) The room we stayed in ("Henry VIII") is spectacular. Absolutely enormous, and steeped in history you’d struggle to find elsewhere. The standard of furnishings, comfort of the bed, and overall attention to detail are exemplary. Moving on to dinner: our tasting menu, complete with wine flight, was truly outstanding—easily Michelin star quality. In fact, better than some one- and even two-star restaurants I’ve eaten in. I’m not a fan of truffle, so I mentioned this to our waiter. He offered—without hesitation—to switch out that course, and the accompanying wine, for an alternative. It all worked beautifully. The food was exquisite, and the presentation immaculate. Overall, we could not be more pleased. It’s not a cheap experience by any means, but compared to alternatives of similar standard, I’d say it offers very good value. If you fancy staying in a castle with 1,000 years of history—where Henry VIII stayed—in the West Country, I cannot imagine how you'd be disappointed. Highly recommended..

Given the opportunity, I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. This is my absolute favourite hotel, without a doubt. I’d also like to thank all the staff as every interaction was perfect: professional yet personable with a genuine sense of caring that certainly made us feel like welcomed guests.

We had the most wonderful 2-night stay at the Thornbury Castle Hotel. Everything was incredible, absolutely incredible. If you think that because it is an old castle then you should expect a dusty old place, you couldn’t be more wrong. The room was spotless (Audley room), the level of cleanliness was 10 out of 10, they even offer an evening tidy up of the room which is complimentary. The food was amazing, from breakfast to dinner. Pedro from the terrace bar, Pedro from the restaurant and Jacqueline from reception were so friendly, polite and helpful, they really went out of their way to make our stay as lovely as possible. We will definitely return to this magnificent place.
