We were looking for a couple of nights getaway to unwind from the hustle and bustle of daily life and this was a hidden gem. Or room was clean and spacious and overlooked the lake. It was so relaxing sitting outside on the patio with a beautiful view, just watching the ducks, coots and moorhens messing around on the grass bank in front of our room. The staff were friendly and attentive from checking in at reception and at the bar and restaurant. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday and the food was very nice. If you like walking as we do, there is a lovely country park right on the doorstep. We had a lovely stay and will definitely return.

This hotel is a hidden gem! Conveniently located off the A2/M2, perfect for exploring the coast and London. Our comfortable and clean lakeside room had a beautiful view and a patio to relax with the ducks. Our breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order and cater for vegan and vegetarians too. The staff were friendly and approachable. There’s the added bonus of the ‘Rejuvenation Room’, a wellness sanctuary offering lovely and reasonably priced treatments during our stay. I’d definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay or event hire.

Lovely room, Lakeside View, complete with patio table and chairs. Although several sets of steps from reception to bar, breakfast room and bedrooms there were lifts available if you couldn’t manage them. Breakfast: continental / help yourself all the usual, and cooked break served at your table. All very quick, even though busy, and very good. Bottled tap water available from the bar that is kept in the fridge. A bonus for me as it was very hot weather while I was there. The staff in all areas were exceptionally friendly and efficient. Will definitely return, thank you.

I stayed in a lake view double room as part of a wedding party with my partner & toddler. Nice & spacious with room for a travel cot next to the bed. Very clean. Nice size bathroom with lovely smelling complimentary toiletries. Loved that there were big open doors and a place to sit just outside the room to relax by the lake. Ceiling fan also saved us during the night during this heatwave! Only comments I would make is that the person staying next to us had their dogs staying with them, and I being a dog lover myself am so pleased to see a dog friendly hotel! However… when the owner left them in the room from 6am that led to continuous barking.. it’s a good thing I had to be up early but I feel for those in close proximity who came for a relaxing stay and a potential lay-in. Maybe have a separate wing of the hotel for those with their dogs? Another point to add is if you are there for a wedding as we were, and your part of the bridal party/groom party, on a day with 30+ degree heat we could have done with an air conditioning unit in the bridal sweet! Something to invest in for sure with how popular the venue is for weddings! Otherwise no other issues and would absolutely stay again. Thank you to all of the staff who are friendly and welcoming and can’t do enough for you.

A Disappointing Stay: Our Detailed Feedback We don’t like to leave negative reviews, but our recent stay was unfortunately very disappointing. Below is our comprehensive feedback. No fridge in room - for me it is something new - but did not checked that before. Room Concerns Cleanliness issues: The bathroom had mould, and bugs were crawling on the bedding. Furniture and surfaces: There was a sticky residue on various surfaces, giving the impression of either poor cleaning or a hidden anti‑slip coating. We also noticed visible stains on chairs. Health concerns: We woke up with bites, indicating something in the room bit us during the night. In-room equipment: Instructions said to dial “0” on the phone for assistance, yet there was no phone provided. Dining Experience Varied quality: Our child enjoyed their fish and chips, but other meals were disappointing. Problems with orders: My pizza lacked sauce and was burnt. I had requested BBQ sauce, but when I pointed out the issue, the waitress said it was “too late,” showing no willingness to fix the mistake. My wife’s burger was bland and lacked taste. Value: Considering the quality, the food seemed overpriced. We would rate it 4/10 overall. Staff Interactions Positive experiences: The reception staff were consistently helpful, polite, and a credit to the establishment. Negative experiences: The bar staff were rude and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. For example, when we asked for sauce for a burger, the waiter said “no problem” but never returned with it. At breakfast, we requested three baguettes and two croissants. Initially we were told “no problem,” but then the waitress informed us there were “no extras,” and we received only two baguettes and one croissant. We were willing to pay for additional items but were never given the chance. Overall, there seemed to be a lack of basic customer service training among bar and breakfast staff. Final Thoughts Our aim is not to be “demanding” but to share the facts of our experience in the hope that improvements can be made for future guests. We encourage management to address cleanliness, food quality, and customer service so that other visitors have a more positive stay.
