Admittedly, I am rather late in leaving my review for Roxy Lanes within The Light, Leeds, but better late than never, I hope! Last month, I arranged to meet a friend in Leeds city centre. Having grown somewhat tired of the usual restaurant visits, we wanted to do something different. I often walk past the three Roxy venues situated within Leeds city centre, and thought it would be fun to visit one for a change. After checking online, I found that Roxy Lanes located within The Light, opened earlier than the other two venues. This made it the most convenient choice, as my friend and I planned to play a few games there following our lunch nearby. Booking online was straightforward, and I easily secured a booking for a game of Ten pin bowling. On the day of our visit, we were momentarily unsure of the entrance, but we were directed downstairs by the gentleman on the ground floor. At the service desk below, I provided my booking details to a member of staff, who quickly showed us to our reserved lane. Our game was already set up with our names, ready to begin. My friend and I really enjoyed playing, though it was quickly apparent that our bowling skills were abysmal. We attempted to call for assistance using the button at our lane, but after receiving no response for some time, I returned to the service desk to request that bumpers be added to our game. The staff member was accommodating, though we paused our game for quite a while as nothing seemed to change. Upon returning to the desk again, it was confirmed that the bumpers had indeed been activated, albeit not particularly visible to players. Once that was clarified, we continued our game and additionally decided to purchase another round thereafter too. As we had already eaten elsewhere, we did not try anything from Roxy’s food or drinks menu. Nevertheless, we had a very pleasant experience. There is also a photo-booth located to the right of the service desk, which makes for a lovely way to capture a memento from the day. Roxy Lanes was not particularly busy during our visit, though I did notice a mix of friendship groups and couples enjoying themselves. I understand that this specific venue (being the only Roxy ‘Lanes’ in Leeds) allows under-18s to visit with an accompanying adult during certain hours, whereas the Roxy ‘Ballroom’ venues are strictly adult-only, likely due to their alcohol licences. Overall, I would highly recommend Roxy Lanes, or any of the Roxy venues, to friends and couples seeking an enjoyable activity in Leeds city centre. It is a little expensive, with each game costing around £20.00 (£21.50 online including the booking fee), but as an occasional treat, it is worth it, so to subjectively speak.
