About Venue

As ever, German chef Rainer Becker and Italian designer Claudio Silvestrin made Japan their muse for this fourth link in the Roka group. In its two smart spaces, texture is all important: look out for porphyry stone, tanned leathers and stained-grey timber. Set between Covent Garden and Somerset House, the restaurant makes a big play of its robata grill, which dominates the open kitchen in the middle of the main dining room. The inviting bar serves cocktails in handmade clay vessels and is a good spot for a working lunch. Its display walls showcase the group’s range of shochu tonics. Both spaces invite groups for sit-down dinners.

My friends and I went to the Roka brunch yesterday and I have to say that it was spectacular. I have intolerances and notified the staff and they accommodated me so well, to the point that I got separate dishes, so that I didn’t feel left out from the group. The sheer quantity of food you get at this brunch is amazing and of such an exceptional quality. We all opted for bottomless wine and we were filled up frequently and plentifully. We all had a fabulous time and we definitely be coming back 😸

The food here is really good - enjoyed each of the dishes, especially the miso black cod - comparable to Nobu but £20 cheaper. However, the service isn't the best - waited literally 20 mins to place an order. Also, there were 2 large groups of drunk women literally screaming instead of talking to each other, as if they've never been in a public space before - definitely not suitable for a fancy restaurant - the staff should've told them to tone it down or just asked them to leave as they were ruining the experience for everyone else. Having said that, I'd definitely come back for the food!
