We source locally, cook seasonally and use organic and free range produce. Everyday we cook six daily lunch dishes and pudding and prepare a selection of freshly made sandwiches, tarts and soups to take away, we also bake our own cakes too. I came around 10 am for breakfast. There weren’t many people, and the staff seemed to have enough time. However, instead of focusing on the guests, they were walking around the dining area, moving things: maybe preparing food for lunch, but strangely, they were doing it right in the main hall. What really disappointed me was that I had to wait 30 minutes for my porridge. First, a woman came and took my tea order, which arrived quickly. Then I ordered the porridge - and waited. Come on, 30 minutes for a simple breakfast dish! At first, I tried to stay patient, but after about 20 minutes I just started observing what was happening around - the staff walking back and forth, yet no one even checked on my order. Eventually, I stood up, asked for the bill, and mentioned that it took way too long. Instead of apologising or offering any gesture of goodwill, they simply said something like, “Maybe next time you can come for lunch.” Seriously? That’s exactly the kind of service I didn’t expect. I don’t have that much free time in my mornings to wait half an hour for a bowl of porridge. Really disappointing experience.
