Very wonderful and comforting place to stay. The staff are amazing and extremely welcoming. I would recommend this place to anyone and think everyone should experience a hotel like this, especially since you don’t find these types of establishments often! Loved it!

La Gaffe translates to blunder, mistake or faux pas. That’s a bit too close for comfort for this hotel. It’s clean. Affordable for London. Comfortable bed. That’s the good news. The downside is a youth hostel level of accommodation, quirky layout, many steps, and maintenance issues galore. Hampstead is a very upscale neighborhood, crammed with coffee shops, spas, and expensive boutiques. La Gaffe is out of sync with the gentrified neighborhood. The furnishings are old and tired, rooms are tiny and spartan. The included continental breakfast is as basic as it gets. During our 4 night stay in hot weather, the bathroom towel rack was red hot and couldn’t be turned off. The phone fell apart when we touched it. The accessible back door would have been ideal for my mobility challenged husband, but according to the proprietor, the key was lost years ago. Stay at La Gaffe if it’s the right location for you, but book with realistic expectations.
