We booked directly with the hotel for a fairly last-minute overnight stay. I made my booking with Kerry, who was absolutely lovely on the phone and equally friendly and helpful when we met her on reception. As there were no twin rooms available, I booked a family room, which provided two very comfortable double beds. We had a very pleasant stay. The location was very handy for the motorway - without being too close - and parking was very good. We didn’t have time to dine at the hotel, but found it very comfortable and good value for money.

For a 4 star hotel, our stay was OK. There was no wow factor (we have stayed in many 4 stars). £150 for 2 adults & 1 child BB which is a good price. The room was very big but needs a make over and we all slept OK. Pool is small so when it got busy we left, changing facilities need up dating. Bar prices were standard for 4 star hotel. Plenty of choice for breakfast. My daughter had square sausage and she advised it tasted like cheap meat. My husband had a full breakfast, he advised the quality was adequate, I had toast and jam which you can't go wrong with. Location is on the main road with houses at the back. All in all we would not return.

Firstly the good. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room itself was clean. The food was also very good, at breakfast and in the restaurant. The bed was also pretty comfy, not too soft. Now the bad. The whole place is pretty shabby and tired. The carpet on the stairs is worn out. The laminate flooring outside my room was lifting and broken which almost sent me flying. None of the windows look as if they have ever been cleaned, and I was frightened to touch the glass in the internal doors upstairs because it was so visibly filthy. Swimming pool is pretty small and not very deep, don't go expecting to have a proper swim. The kettle in my room was also broken and the TV looked about 20 years old. Now for the completely unacceptable. My room was in the top floor and I was staying in July so I expected it to be warm, but I was not expecting to have the radiator blasting away on 5 as well! Fortunately I could open the windows, but that let in the noise of the road. No toilet brush was provided, which is just insane. The bathroom was not a proper bathroom with a locking door, just a glass partition with frosted vinyl stickers offering absolutely zero privacy. It was obviously designed by some pervert who enjoys watching people on the loo! The bathroom made of glass was bad, but the final straw was running the hot water for a bath and it coming out of the taps brown!!! They need to call a plumber immediately, as their pipes are either rusting or they have an excess of sediment in their hot water system, both of which constitute a health and safety risk. The whole area around the swimming pool was absolutely filthy, and most of the lockers were broken. The pool seemed pretty dirty too. Whole place needs dome serious care and attention, maybe even a full refurbishment. Would not stay again.

I I wish I could give this place a higher rating. It has potential, but considering the price we paid, the rooms, the facilities, and the breakfast experience, I cannot justify giving it more. Earlier in the afternoon, we called to check the closing time for the spa and pool. A man over the phone told us they would close at 6 p.m., which was a bit disappointing. We rushed to arrive by then, but once at reception, a lovely young lady assured us the spa and pool would close at 7 p.m. We then headed to our room, changed, and visited the spa. While a bit dated, it was equipped with a sauna, steam room, and pool, and we enjoyed a lovely hour there. Our room was okay. I still feel uneasy whenever I see the carpet, especially with visible stains and marks. The bathroom, however, was clean and in good condition. What left me a bit baffled was breakfast. The cups and plates felt dirty; at first, I thought it was just a tactile sensation, but when picking up a glass for juice, my partner noticed how dirty it was and decided to skip the juice. The breakfast itself was okay, with a range of English and Scottish options, but very little fresh fruit. The fruit that was available seemed like canned, sweetened fruit. Overall, if it weren’t marketed as a 4-star hotel, I would have been more comfortable. This time, I don’t feel confident saying I would return or recommend it to others. The service was acceptable, and reception was welcoming, but nothing beyond that.

This hotel was very disappointing. I could not even justify giving it 3 stars. If you want to stay here then be prepared for very low water pressure which means the showers and taps are barely functioning. Even the spa showers are disappointing. This hotel needs severe updating, it is old and tired and clearly no investment has gone into it for years. Quite frankly I feel sorry for the staff who have to cope with the complaints. None of the rooms have air conditioning therefore be prepared for hot rooms in the summer. The rooms also have no double glazing so be prepared for noisy traffic. The pool was closed for 2 days due to a broken pump. Even one of the regular spa customers who pays monthly membership said that the place should be closed down. I can not think of anything positive to say because the negatives just outweigh the positives.
